Content Removal Policy
Last updated
This policy explains how to ask us to remove content from the Service, who can ask, and what happens after you do. It applies whether or not you have an account.
1. Who can request removal
You can request removal of content on 2.71 if you are:
- someone who believes an Output or a public character depicts your likeness, or otherwise depicts you, without your consent;
- a copyright or trademark holder whose work has been used without authorization;
- someone reporting content that appears illegal, including content that may depict a minor or that suggests sex trafficking or coercion;
- someone reporting content that violates our Prohibited Content Policy; or
- a user asking us to delete content from your own account.
If you want your own Outputs or characters removed, you can delete them yourself from your account. There is no self-serve way to delete an entire account; email legal@271.dev and we will close it for you.
2. What you can request removal of
You can ask us to remove:
- a character or Output that depicts your likeness or otherwise depicts a real, identifiable person without consent;
- content that infringes your copyright or trademark;
- content that violates your privacy rights;
- content that appears illegal, including apparent depictions of minors or indicators of trafficking or coercion; and
- content that otherwise violates the Prohibited Content Policy or our Terms of Service.
3. How to submit a request
Email legal@271.dev with the subject line "Content removal request." Include:
- a link to the content, or another identifier that lets us locate it;
- a description of the content and why you believe it should be removed;
- your relationship to the content (for example, the person depicted, the rights holder, or an unrelated reporter);
- your contact details, so we can follow up or notify you of the outcome;
- a good-faith statement that the information in your request is accurate; and
- for a likeness claim, a way for us to confirm your identity or relationship to the person depicted. We do not need a copy of your government-issued ID for this; a photo, a link to your public profile, or similar evidence is usually enough. We will ask for more only if we cannot otherwise verify your claim.
A copyright complaint should instead follow the notice requirements in Terms of Service section 8, which also covers counter-notices if your own content was removed.
4. What happens after you submit a request
We acknowledge requests within 7 days. Requests involving apparent depictions of minors, sex trafficking, or other illegal content are reviewed and, once verified, actioned within 24 hours. Other requests are decided within 30 days; complex cases may take longer, and we will tell you if that happens.
While we review a request, we may remove or restrict access to the content provisionally, before reaching a final decision.
If we uphold a request, depending on the circumstances we may:
- remove the specific content from the Service;
- restrict or remove the character that produced it;
- suspend or terminate the account that created it;
- preserve the content and related account information as evidence; and
- report the content to law enforcement or another authority where required or appropriate, including as described in our Content Moderation Policy.
5. Notice to the content creator
Where we can identify the account that created the content, we will generally notify them that a removal request was made and give them a chance to respond. If we decide against removal, or if their content is removed, they may appeal under our Complaint Policy. We may withhold notice, or details of the requester's identity, where the law requires it or where notice would interfere with an investigation, such as reports of apparent illegal content.
6. Misuse of this process
Submitting a request you know to be false, submitting the same request repeatedly after it has already been decided, or using this process to harass another user or suppress lawful content is itself a violation of our Terms of Service. We may deny such requests, and may warn, suspend, or terminate the account that submitted them.
7. What removal means
Content we remove is taken off the Service and out of any public listings. We may keep a copy for as long as needed for legal, safety, or evidentiary reasons, such as responding to law enforcement or defending a legal claim, and delete it once that need ends. Removal from the Service does not reach copies that other users may already have downloaded before removal; we cannot recall those.
8. Law enforcement and legal process
We cooperate with valid law enforcement requests and court orders, including preservation and disclosure requests. We may also proactively report content and account information to authorities such as the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children where our Content Moderation Policy requires it, independent of any removal request from a third party.
